“The purpose of mud flaps and splash guards is to minimize the spray of water, mud, snow and rocks, therefore protecting your paintjob.” I hope you have been infinitely blessed by that statement. I would love to end my blog right here and leave people guessing as to why I would share about mud-flaps, but of course I won’t. The interesting thing is, while driving the other day, I saw the words “Only the blood of Jesus can cleanse sin” on the mud-flap of a truck. I am wondering if somehow the driver wants people to draw parallels between mud-flaps and Jesus. I guess we can. I suppose we can say that just as mud flaps don’t allow dirt and grime to stick to our vehicles, Jesus doesn’t allow sin to stick to those who trust in Him? We could say that, but the whole things sounds kind of corny and that I am really reaching (which I am…). To me, the greater significance comes from considering the intent of the person who said, “Hey, I’m going to put this mud-flap about Jesus on the back of my eighteen-wheeler and hopefully I will get some people thinking about Jesus.” Well, it worked …. at least for me, or else I wouldn’t be writing this blog. However, I suspect that it has worked for others as well. Now, has anyone ever come to Christ through the message of that mud-flap? Doubtful. Yet, it is likely that many people have thought something about Jesus, good, bad or indifferent. Maybe God used those thoughts to bring that person closer to Him. However, whomever made the decision to adorn their truck with that flap wanted to get the word out about Jesus. That is the main point. What is also the point is that it doesn’t matter who we are as believers in Christ, we should all want to get the word out about Jesus. We could be accountants, cooks, construction workers, police officers or marketing analysts. It doesn’t matter. Each one of us has to figure out how we are going to be a voice for our Lord and Savior. Now don’t get caught up in the creativity of the truck driver. Cooks don’t have to serve cross-shaped biscuits. Construction workers don’t have to only build churches Accountants don’t have to have written on their letter-head, “Jesus is the only true way to get your debt forgiven.” We just need to try as best as we can to share something about Christ. I was thinking about what verse to share with you today. I pondered what could tie this all together. Then I realized I wanted to share one last idea. We should all try hard to share about Christ. Here is a rally-cry for us: 8 We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. 10 We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11 For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. 2 Corinthians 4:8-11 God will help us to be faithful witnesses, so get out your mud-flaps, or whatever you want to use, and share the Gospel. For Him, Rob
