If you are not a hoarder, then you likely go through your closet every so often and pull-out clothing or shoes that have worn out. And of course, this makes sense, because such things lose their color, fray, deform, and wither with time.
So, wouldn’t it be great if we could buy clothing that was not subject to the ravages of time? Well, if you find some, let me know, because as far as I know, no such items exist.
Which is why I find God’s words in Deuteronomy 29:5 so amazing. For here we find God recounting how He led Israel through the wilderness, and specifically that;
“Your clothes have not worn out on you, and your sandals have not worn off your feet (Deuteronomy 29:5 ESV).
Can you imagine? For forty years their clothes and sandals showed no signs of wear. And unlike our clothes, which are often in climate-controlled settings, their clothes were subject to all the elements, including blazing heat! And yet, the clothes they possessed stood the test of time for four decades!
But how could this be? Well, it is because God was behind it, and was ensuring that Israel had all that they needed for their long and treacherous journey.
And God has promised to care for us as well, as we go through our own journey.
For Jesus said;
Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? (Matthew 6:25-26 ESV)
So, rather than focus on what we need, let us instead turn our focus to “…the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33 ESV).
For, if God could provide for Israel in the wilderness, by giving them clothing that would not wear out, He can certainly provide for us in our circumstances, and free us up to be about the work of His Kingdom.
Blessings,
