A Sea of Faces

How was your Fourth of July? Mine? Oh, thanks for asking. I didn’t see any fireworks (as I suspect is true for many), but I had one of the best Fourth of July’s that I have ever had.
You see this year I participated in the 4th of July parade in Springfield. It was truly a blessing as we gathered early, decorated The Blue Church’s float, enjoyed the fellowship of about thirty from the church, and sang and danced our way through the streets of Springfield while listening to the Turn it up praise team share one Christ-centered song after another with the residents of Springfield. Lord willing, I can’t wait to go back next year.

As much of a blessing as the parade was I also walked away with a somber note ringing through my mind. At first, as I looked at the crowd, I was happy to see so many residents who were out on a sunny morning with their lawn chairs and snacks enjoying the parade. Young and old gathered and some even danced along with us to the music. They smiled and laughed and clearly were having a good time. There must have been thousands……

But then as I passed that sea of faces I started wondering about how many of them had a biblical understanding of The Lord Jesus Christ. Even more importantly, I wondered how many of them had exercised faith in Christ and His sacrifice on the cross for the forgiveness of their sins. My hope of course is that many of the people I passed knew The Lord and His grace and mercy. Well, a week has almost past and their sea of faces is still in my mind. I am glad that we as a church were out their singing Christ’s praises, handing out VBS cards, and promoting our church which strives to call all people into a deep relationship with Jesus Christ, but I know we have to do more. There are so many people out there (and I am no longer talking about Springfield) who are still don’t believe in God, or do believe in Him but are trusting in their good deeds making a way for them to spend an eternity with Him.

Please pray with me for the salvation of so many who drive-by our church every day on their way to wherever, and don’t once stop to consider the Lord Jesus Christ.

Father,

Thank you for our salvation which is a gift from you.
Lord, our hearts are burdened for those who don’t know you.
We have a treasure, your gospel, that we carry around in our fragile bodies, so that your power may be known as we faithfully share the Gospel of your Son Jesus Christ.
Forgive us for so often keeping this treasure for ourselves.
Help us to be bold in sharing The Gospel so that the greatest freedom of all, the freedom that is found in Jesus Christ and His forgiveness of sins will be known to many through the ministry of The Blue Church.

In your Son Jesus’ name.
Amen.
