God Upholds Us by His Word

There are many Bible verses that speak of how God upholds us, such as:

• Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes,
I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. (Isaiah 41:10)
• The Lord upholds all who fall, and raises up all those who are bowed down. (Psalms 145:14)
• The Lord upholds the humble. He brings the wicked down to the ground. (Psalms 147:6)

I hope that as you read these verses you are filled with praise to God. For He loves us so much that He upholds us by His power when we are dismayed and have fallen.

But there is another way that God upholds us, and that is through His Word, the Bible.

For example, when we are feeling anxious, 1 Peter 5:6-7 invites us to “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

And when we are tempted, Hebrews 2:18 tells us, “For because He (Jesus) himself has suffered when tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted”.

And if we are depressed, God’s Word invites us to ask; “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again—my Savior and my God.” (Psalm 42:5).

Even when we are brokenhearted, especially over the loss of a loved one, the Bible tells us that “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18

But perhaps some would ask, “Does God really uphold us when we read verses from the Bible? Well, King David would say yes! For in Psalm 119:28 he says: “My soul melts away for sorrow; strengthen me according to your word!” King David knew that God’s promises were a source of strength, and this is true for us as well. And let’s not forget that as we read the Bible, the Holy Spirit works in us to strengthen and uphold us!

How gracious God is to uphold us by His power and His Word. How worthy He is of our praise!

In Christ’s love,

Pastor Rob
