I want to be a teenager
I want to graduate high school
I want to graduate college
I want a job
I want to be married
I want to have children
I want to travel
I want a new car
I want to own a home
I want better health
I want better relationships
I want to be busier….
I want to be a teenager again
I miss my high school days
I hate my job
My spouse is driving me crazy
My kids are driving me crazy
I am in debt from all of my traveling
My car bills are through the ceiling
This home is too big
This home is too small
My fitness club membership costs too much
I want less relationships and more time to myself
I want to be less busy
I want to retire
And the secret?
12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” – Philippians 4:12-13
Have you learned the secret of being content in any and every situation?
Here are some necessary pieces of “the secret”:
- Ask God to help you to be content. If you are still discontented, keep praying.
- Offer thankfulness to God for all things (for, even in the struggles He is refining your faith).
- Offer praise to God, no matter what you are going through, for He is worthy.
- Accept that God is sovereign and over all things, and all things are from His hand. There is a time and a purpose for all things under heaven.
- Look for ways to glorify Him and bless others, no matter what your circumstances are.
- Pray that God would help you to be more humble.
- Seek God’s will and not your own.
- Stay in God’s Word – it is an excellent shield against discontent.
You can do all these things, through Him who gives you strength.
