Pass the Turkey and a big helping of Jesus

I hope all of you had a blessed Thanksgiving. The title of today’s blog was chosen because it represents what I

wish  took place at Thanksgiving around my house.

I wish that everyone who came to visit had praise for Jesus on their lips.

I wish that every note of thanks that was offered was directed to The Lord, because everyone knew that He alone was to be thanked for all of the goodness in our lives.

I wish that prayer time was not confined to a thirty-second spot around the dinner table, but instead was a time for all family to gather and pray for one another.

I wish that a good amount of the conversation centered on what book of the bible people were reading and what God had been teaching or doing in their lives as of late.

I wish that everyone who came through the door came to serve because they know they are in service to Christ and they consider others more important than themselves.

I wish that there would be a beautifully gifted musician in our family who would come and lead us in a time of worship.

These are just some of the things that I wish would happen around my house on Thanksgiving or around any of the holidays because this is actually what

should

happen. This is what God deserves.

Yes….I would really like a Thanksgiving like that…

Then Thanksgiving would really be a time of thanks. Christmas would be a time to celebrate the baby-king and Easter would be a time to celebrate the Savior-king.

These are all wishes, and I am resolved to the fact that I will never celebrate a holiday like this here on earth.

But beloved, a time of such celebration is coming and we will all be there to enjoy every minute of thanks, praise, and testimony to the great things God has done and is doing.

Here is just a taste of such a time in heaven from Revelation chapter 7

9After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. 10

And they cried out in a loud voice:

“Salvation belongs to our God,

who sits on the throne,

and to the Lamb.”

11All the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures. They fell down on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12

saying:

“Amen!

Praise and glory

and wisdom and thanks and honor

and power and strength

be to our God for ever and ever.

Amen!”

Yes – one day we will be gathered with every tribe and nation – countless individuals who all have the same praise in their heart that you and I do. There will be no scowls when Jesus is brought up. There will be no contentious arguments. Jesus will not be playing second fiddle to discussions about politics, who did what to who, what kind of food is being served, or when it is time for presents to be opened.

You know, if it wasn’t for the fact that I knew that such a day of unadulterated praise was coming, I would be disheartened by what I wrote today. The good news is that in church’s across the world offer times of beautiful fellowship centered on Christ during every holiday. A little taste of heaven for which we can be truly thankful.

But until such time that we can be with our Lord I can only say..

Come Lord Jesus. That we may gather with all the saints and give You the praise you are due.

For Him,

Rob
